Creating and managing checking accounts

You can open additional checking and savings accounts in Mercury to organize your finances—for example, by vendor, expense type, or team. These accounts can be nicknamed, paired with virtual debit cards or set up with auto-transfer rules to manage balances.

Below are steps to open and remove accounts right from your dashboard.

Creating a new account

If you're an admin on the account, you can create a new checking or savings account right from the Accounts section of the main dashboard. Here's how: 

  1. In Accounts table, click on the + to add a new account
  2. Select either Checking or Savings
  3. (Optional) Add a nickname for your account and click Create
  4. The new account should appear in your list after a few moments, and you can click into it to copy your new account number.

Removing an account

Before you can remove a checking or savings account, make sure its balance is $0. Then:

  1. Click on the Accounts tab from the left-hand side of the Dashboard
  2. Select the account you'd like to remove
  3. Select More ⋮ 
  4. Click Close Account
  5. Confirm you'd like to close the account


Once removed, the account will be permanently deleted and can no longer transact, but you can still see previous statements. You can also manage, reorder and create new accounts as needed from your Accounts tab.
