Using your Mercury mobile app to generate 2FA codes is easy! We recommend enabling push notifications, which will make things a lot simpler - but you can access the codes without push notifications, regardless of whether you’re currently logged into the app.
Accessing 2FA codes prior to login
Once you’ve set up 2FA in your Mercury app, you can access the necessary 6-digit 2FA codes whether you’re logged in or not. These are the same codes you can access after login, we’ve just provided them in two places.
Android
- Open the app. If you’ve got biometric/fingerprint login enabled, the prompt will display – feel free to dismiss it. At the bottom, under the email/password entry, tap Two-factor authentication.
- You’ll see all the Mercury profiles and 2FA codes you’ve set up already. If you want to generate codes for another Mercury account, you can click the ⊕ icon (circled plus) next to Security codes to begin the process.
iOS
- Open the app. If you’ve got Face ID login enabled, a prompt will display – feel free to dismiss it. At the bottom, under the email/password entry, find and tap Two-factor authentication.
- You’ll see all the Mercury profiles and 2FA codes you’ve set up already. If you want to generate codes for another Mercury account, you can click the ⊕ icon (circled plus) next to Security codes to begin the process.
Accessing 2FA codes after login
If you’re already logged in to your Mercury app, here’s how to access your 6-digit 2FA codes:
Android
- From the main screen (where you can see graphs), tap the User Profile button in the top-right corner, then tap ⚙️Settings.
- In Settings, find and tap Security – it should be just above Help.
- In Security, find and tap 2-factor Authentication.
- You’ll see all the Mercury profiles and 2FA codes you’ve set up already. If you want to generate codes for another Mercury account, you can click the ⊕ icon (circled plus) next to Security codes to begin the process.
iOS
- From the main screen (where you can see graphs), tap the User Profile button in the top-right corner, then tap ⚙️Settings.
- Under Settings, find and tap Two-Factor Authentication.
- You’ll see all the Mercury profiles and 2FA codes you’ve set up already. If you want to generate codes for another Mercury account, you can click the ⊕ icon (circled plus) next to 2FA codes to begin the process.
Removing 2FA
If you’ve recently reset 2FA on your Mercury profile, you’ll need to manually remove the existing 2FA code on your mobile device and set it up again. This is because the “key” we use to generate your 2FA codes has changed – your old codes will not be useful anymore, so we encourage you to delete them to avoid confusion in the future.
Android
- Open your 2FA codes – see the Using 2FA section above on how to do that.
- Find and tap the “trash” icon - it should be on the right-hand side of the 6-digit code. If you have more than one profile set up, double check that you’re removing the correct one.
- You’ll be asked to confirm – tap Remove.
- You’ll be returned to the main setup screen, where you can set up 2FA anew.
iOS
- Open your 2FA codes – see the Using 2FA section above on how to access them.
- Tap Edit next on the top-right of the 2FA codes card that pops up from the bottom of your screen.
- Tap the Remove ⛔️ icon to the left of the codes. If you have more than one Mercury 2FA profile, double check that you’re deleting the correct code.
- When prompted, tap Remove to confirm.
- You’ll be returned to the main setup screen, where you can set up 2FA anew.
