2024 international payment updates

What is this update? 

This article applies to countries and regions affected by our November 1, 2024 update:

  • Locations that will require documentation: Countries and regions that will require additional documentation for outgoing payments, effective November 1, 2024
  • Locations that will be blocked: Countries and regions you can no longer send outgoing payments to, or make card swipes and ATM withdrawals within, effective November 1, 2024

Why are these changes happening? 

On Mercury, you can send money to most countries around the world — however, there are some exceptions. As part of our continued commitment to ensure secure, compliant transactions for all customers, we have updated how international payments may be sent to and from the countries listed below, effective November 1.  We may reassess our risk appetite and update these country lists at any time. 

Locations that will require documentation

Some countries and regions will require additional documentation for outgoing payments, effective November 1, 2024. When you create a payment to one of the following countries, select “I’d like to provide additional information” and fill out a description of the payment reason, indicate whether or not you plan to pay this recipient in the future, and upload any supporting documentation such as an invoice or a contract:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina
  • Burundi
  • Cambodia
  • Cameroon
  • Croatia
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Nicaragua
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Ukraine (non-sanctioned regions)
  • Zimbabwe

Locations that will be blocked

These are countries and regions you can no longer send outgoing payments to, receive incoming payments from, or make card swipes and ATM withdrawals within, effective November 1, 2024. These restrictions apply to transactions with online merchants that have legal addresses in these locations. We also will not ship Mercury cards to these locations.

  • Congo (the)
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iraq
  • Liberia
  • Mali
  • Mozambique
  • Myanmar (Burma)
  • Palestine (State of)
