Sending money on Mercury Personal

You can send payments from your Mercury account using the Send Money flow in your dashboard — this is where you’ll start most outgoing payments from Mercury, including ACH transfers, domestic wires, international wires, real-time payments, and mailed checks.

The only exception is physical checkbooks, which are ordered and managed separately.

When you send money, you can add or select a recipient, choose an available payment method, enter the amount and timing, then review and submit your payment.

Domestic payment methods

ACH payments

ACH payments are electronic transfers between U.S. bank accounts. They’re commonly used for standard domestic payments, like paying vendors, contractors, employees, or external accounts.

ACH payments are free to send on Mercury. If submitted before the ACH cutoff and eligible for same-day processing, funds typically post the same business day. Otherwise, ACH payments are processed the next business day.

Domestic wires

Domestic wires allow you to send money in USD to a recipient at a U.S. bank. They’re typically used for larger or time-sensitive domestic payments.

Domestic wires are free to send on Mercury. If submitted before the domestic wire cutoff and eligible for same-day processing, funds typically post the same business day. Otherwise, domestic wires are processed the next business day.

Real-time payments

Mailed checks

Mailed checks let you send a paper check to a U.S.-based recipient without writing or mailing it yourself. Mercury prints and mails the check on your behalf.

Mailed checks are free to send on Mercury. They’re typically printed within 1 business day, then sent via USPS. Checks can take up to 10 business days to arrive.

International payment methods

International wires in USD

USD international wires let you send U.S. dollars to recipients outside the U.S. This can be useful if your recipient wants to receive USD or has provided USD wire instructions.

USD international wires are free to send on Mercury. They’re typically processed and sent by Mercury within 1–3 business days from when they’re requested. In general, international wires can take up to 5 business days to reach your recipient if all information is correct.

International wires in non-USD (FX)

Non-USD international wires allow you to send money to recipients outside of the United States in 40+ local currencies.

Non-USD international wires include a 1% currency exchange fee on the USD amount to account for the conversion handled as part of the payment flow. You’ll be able to review the exchange rate, applicable fees, and final amount before submitting the payment.

Non-USD international wires are typically processed and sent by Mercury within 1–3 business days. Arrival timing can vary based on the destination country, currency, recipient bank, intermediary banks, and any routine payment review.

Sending a payment

To send a payment:

  1. In your Mercury dashboard on web, go to Move Money > Send
    • On mobile, tap the middle icon on the of your bottom menu bar, then tap Send
  2. You can either start by adding a new recipient/selecting an existing one or uploading a bill to pay directly
  3. Choose an available payment method
  4. Enter and confirm the amount, funding account, and send date
  5. Review the payment details
  6. Submit the payment

A note on timing and errors

Processing times can vary based on cutoff times, weekends, holidays, payment review, recipient bank processing, intermediary banks, and whether all payment details are complete and accurate.

For international wires, Mercury may process and send the payment before the recipient receives it. Intermediary or recipient banks may take additional time to deliver the funds.

If you're encountering errors with a failed/returned payment, we recommend locating the payment on your Transactions page and looking for a failure reason.
