You can send payments to 40+ countries in local currencies using Mercury. This article covers how to send an international wire, track its status, and understand eligibility and restrictions.
How to send an international wire
Initiating an international wire
- Go to Move Money in the upper-right corner of your dashboard and select Send
-
Choose a recipient:
- Upload a bill, select an existing recipient, or create/invite a new recipient
-
If creating a new recipient:
- Add their name and basic info
- Click Create Recipient
-
Enter the payment details:
- Select International Wire as the payment method
- Choose your currency (USD or one of 40+ supported local currencies) from the dropdown
-
Review or enter bank details:
- Start with the recipient’s SWIFT code. The form will update based on country-specific requirements
- If prompted, add the IBAN (International Bank Account Number)
- (Optional) Add a correspondent or intermediary bank's SWIFT code. Only include this if the recipient instructs you to—extra details may cause rejections
- Review these details and ensure information is accurate. Errors may delay or block the transfer
- Click Next
Filling out “Amount” details
- Enter the payment amount (the amount must be greater than $5)
- Choose your source account
- Set the send date (today or scheduled)
- (Optional) Set up a recurring payment
Additional details and finalizing
-
In the Details step:
- Describe the purpose of the wire
- Add optional memos, attachments, or recipient email addresses for receipts
- Click Next to review everything. Double-check recipient details—incorrect info will cause the wire to be rejected and returned
Tracking your payment
Wires usually process within 2-3 days of the scheduled payment date, and can take up to 5 working days to reach your recipient.
Once sent, you should be able to view details (reflecting the USD amount deducted from your account) from your Transactions page.
