You can limit card spending to a single merchant by creating a merchant-locked debit or IO card.
Creating a merchant card
- Go to your Cards page.
- Near the top, select Add Card.
- Check the box when asked if you wish to 'lock card to merchant', then select a merchant from the dropdown.
- Select which team member the card is for and which account you want to pull funds from.
- Give the card a nickname, like “AWS Payments” or “Jojo’s Expense Card.” If you leave the nickname blank, the card recipient can add their own later.
- Set a daily, weekly, or monthly spending limit. You can edit this limit later, if needed.
What happens if I use the card at another merchant?
The transaction should automatically fail - which means you have a greater degree of protection from fraud and card misuse.
Can the merchant be changed at a later date?
Once a merchant card is created it is permanently locked. Should you have need to change the merchant we recommend you delete the old card (or leave it on file) and create a new merchant card.
Can card only users use merchant cards?
Card only users can have merchant cards created on their behalf, but they cannot choose the merchant. The merchant will be set by the admin who creates the card.
Can you change existing cards into merchant cards?
As long as they are virtual Credit or Debit cards, you can change them to a merchant lock card at any point. Note - this is not reversible.
To do this head over to your Cards page and select the card in question. From the panel on the righthand side, select More and then Merchant Lock. You'll be prompted to select a merchant; approve; and then you're done!
By creating a merchant-locked card or adding a merchant lock to an existing virtual card, be advised that this action does not nullify any existing contract between you and additional merchants. A merchant may still have the ability to force post and bypass our authorization. You must directly contact any additional merchant to update your card number or cancel your subscription.
