Blocking a merchant on your cards

If you want to prevent specific merchants from charging your Mercury cards, you can set up merchant blocks through your Spend Policies settings. This article explains how to block merchants, and what to expect when a block is applied.

Blocking a merchant

  1. Click your company name in the top left corner of your dashboard
  2. Select All Settings, then select Spend Policies from the left-hand menu
  3. Under "Spend Controls", click Enable or Edit to add specific merchants or merchant types to block
  4. Click Save for the setting to apply to future transactions

Blocking a merchant does not notify them. Depending on the terms of your agreement with the merchant, you may still owe payment for failed charge attempts. Some merchants may also be able to continue processing charges based on their terms of use. If this happens, contact the merchant directly to cancel the transaction or subscription.

Merchant-specific cards

You can also create cards locked to a specific merchant. This is useful for controlling exactly where a card can be used. Learn more about adding a merchant lock.

Merchant availability

Not every merchant can be blocked. Mercury works with a third-party data provider to maintain a list of approximately 900 blockable merchants. If you don't see a merchant available, it isn't currently supported.

Mercury continues to expand this list over time.
