If you're interested in getting a metal IO card, there are a few ways to qualify or upgrade. This article covers who gets one by default, how to request an upgrade, and what shipping options are available.
Admins with $50,000 in deposits
- Eligibility: If you are an admin on the account and your account balance is $50,000 or more, you qualify to receive a metal IO card at no additional cost
- Benefits: The metal IO card is a premium offering that reflects your company’s growth and commitment
Admins with less than $50,000 in deposits
- Eligibility: If you are an admin and your account balance is below $50,000, you will receive a plastic IO card by default
- Benefits: The plastic IO card includes the same features and benefits as the metal card—it only differs in material
Non-admins
- Eligibility: Regardless of your account balance, if you are not an admin on the account, you will receive a plastic IO card by default. You can read more about our roles and permissions here
- Benefits: The plastic IO card offers the same functionality and convenience as the metal card
How to upgrade your physical IO card
If you don’t meet the balance requirement, you can upgrade to a metal IO card:
- Purchase Option: You can purchase a metal IO card for $49 plus shipping
- How to Order: Simply go to the Cards section of your Mercury dashboard and follow the prompts to issue a new card and upgrade to a metal card. Once issued, you'll see the fee reflected on your Transactions page as a "Physical card upgrade fee"
Shipping options
- Standard shipping: Included at no cost
- Upgraded shipping: Available for an additional fee, based on your shipping address. The final price will be confirmed during card issuance

If you're an admin and want to qualify for the metal IO card, consider increasing your deposit balance to meet the $50,000 threshold.
