Mercury no longer requires the use of unique email addresses. If you’ve used placeholder email(s) in the past, you can now use one profile to manage your various accounts.
Editing your email
You can now convert profiles attached to your old placeholder email(s) to your preferred/main email. To do this, you’ll need to invite yourself to the account using your preferred email by following the steps below.
- Navigate to your company menu in the top left corner of your dashboard and click "Settings" and then select Team.
- Near the top of the Team page, click Invite.
- Input your first name, last name, and preferred email.
- Assign yourself a role and click Next.
- Review the details of the invite, ensuring details are correct and click Invite.
- Check your inbox for an email from hello@mercury.com. Click the Accept Invitation button in the body of the email
- Use your existing login credentials for that profile to login. You’ll be welcomed to the team and prompted to Accept Invite.
Once accepted, you’ll be logged into the newly invited account. Any accounts that share that email will appear in your profile icon in the lower left hand corner of your dashboard. From here, you’ll be able to easily switch between accounts without needing to log in and out. You can learn more about account linking and switching here.
You can head back to your Team page to remove any old placeholder emails that are no longer needed. If you’re a company owner, reach out to help@mercury.com so we can ensure we have your preferred email listed as the primary user.
Important items to note
- Removing the old email will also remove any permissions, data and most importantly, cards associated with that account. Cancelled cards will need to be recreated and will have new card numbers. Be sure to check any subscriptions tied to the old cards and decide if this action is right for you.
- This is a manual process, meaning if you have multiple Mercury accounts and placeholder emails, you’ll need to add yourself to each account using the steps above.
Applying for a new account
To apply for a brand new account using an email address we already have on file, log into the existing profile to get started. If you’re not logged in, you’ll run into an “Email already exists” error message.
Upon login, head to your company menu in the top left-hand corner of your dashboard where you'll see the option to “Open new account”. This profile will share basic information like name, email and 2-factor authentication.
During the onboarding process, you’ll be asked to provide company details but we’ll pre-fill basic information like your name and email.
Once approved, the accounts will be linked and you’ll be able to easily switch between them from your menu.
