Moving payment requests under invoicing

Payment Requests are getting a new home and a new name. We’re consolidating everything related to requesting payments into Invoicing, where you’ll now find a payment link -  a cleaner, more flexible way to get paid.

If you’ve used payment requests before, this guide walks you through what’s changing, what stays the same, and how to close out any existing requests.

Why we’re making this change

Payment requests and Invoicing have always aimed to solve the same problem: helping you get paid quickly and reliably. Moving everything under one roof makes the experience more intuitive and gives you access to more capabilities, including:

  • A unified place to create invoices or quick payment links
  • Access to additional payment methods including ACH Debit
  • Better tracking across all incoming payments
  • Mobile support for monitoring both invoices and payment links
  • A cleaner more polished request pages for your customers

Think of payment links as the next version of payment requests. Same outcome, better experience.

What’s happening to your existing payment requests

If you’ve sent at least one payment request in the past, here’s what you can expect:

  • Your existing requests will remain visible and actionable in your legacy Requests page
  • All requests created before December 16 automatically receive a new 3-month expiry date, and now all expire on March 16, 2026
  • The Request button on the old Requests page is disabled and new requests can now only be created using Payment links on the Invoicing page by clicking + Request Money
  • We’ve generated a downloadable CSV archive of your past payment requests under the Documents page for easy reference anytime

We’ll notify you in app and website with banners and tasks when you visit your old Requests page so you know exactly what’s changing and where to go next.

All of this applies to the mobile app as well.  Any requests made before December 16, 2025 will appear in a dedicated “Legacy” table beneath the Invoicing section. You’ll see a banner notification to make the transition clear and can access a downloadable CSV directly from the mobile app. These requests will also expire on March 16, 2026 and will be available for download on the Documents page.

Key dates to know

Now

  • Starting on December 16th 2025, you can create new payment links from Invoicing
  • Your legacy requests page is visible and any existing request made before December 16th is actionable
  • A CSV will be generated immediately of all existing and former payment requests for your reference. This can be accessed on the Documents page

A week before March 16, 2026

  • If you still have open payment requests, you’ll receive a final reminder that the page will be sunset soon
  • You’ll see a notice in your Tasks tab encouraging you to close out any last open requests

March 16, 2026

  • All old payment requests expire
  • Visiting the old page will show a final message directing you to Invoicing and your downloadable CSV

What you can do with payment links

Payment links combine the simplicity of a quick request with the flexibility of invoicing. Now all in one place.

From the Invoicing page, you can now:

  • Create polished one-time or recurring invoices
  • Send quick payment links for one-off informal payments
  • Track all outstanding payments in a single dashboard
  • Access everything from desktop or mobile

This consolidates tools you already use while giving you more clarity and smoother workflows.

Where to find your past request history

Your complete archive of past requests is available for export anytime:

  • Under your Mercury profile, navigate to the Documents & Data page and click "Other"
    • On mobile, you can find this in the org switcher menu
  • Navigate to “Payment Requests” to download a CSV of request history

Do I need to take any action?

Most customers won’t need to lift a finger. However:

  • If you have open payment requests that you expect to be paid after March 16, plan to close them or resend them as payment links via the Invoicing page before they expire on March 16
  • For your records, feel free to download the CSV archive of previous requests

Everything else will continue working as normal, and you can use Invoicing to send new payment links immediately.

What your customers will experience

Your customers will continue to see a simple, modern payment page that is now even more polished and flexible. Existing payment requests will work up until the final expiration date of March 16th. New links created via Invoicing will use the updated design.

No disruption on their side, just a cleaner experience.
