Keeping your financial information secure

To protect your personal and financial information, it's important that you keep your Mercury login confidential and don’t share it with anyone else. This article explains why shared logins aren't supported and how to give others access securely.

Why shared logins aren’t supported

While running a business is a team effort, each person should sign into Mercury with their own login. Sharing your credentials with a partner, bookkeeper, or colleague may seem convenient, but it prevents you from verifying who is accessing your account and jeopardizes the security of your personal and financial information.

Why we use individual logins

At Mercury, we use individual logins to make sure you’re able to:

  • Verify who’s doing what in your account
  • Protect sensitive details (like account numbers and personal data)
  • Keep your activity history clear, so it’s easier to review and resolve issues

What sharing a login puts at risk

Sharing your Mercury login information can lead to a number of unwelcome outcomes such as:

  • Losing control over who can view or move funds
  • Exposing personal or business information to the wrong people
  • Unclear or unintended activity that’s harder to track or reverse

Secure ways to collaborate

You don’t need to share your login or credentials to get someone the access they need. It’s easy to add teammates from your Mercury dashboard and choose the right level of access for their work (for example: view balances, send payments, manage cards, etc).

Roles and permissions help you tailor access so everyone can access what they need so they can do their job quickly and effectively. Learn more about roles and permissions here

Other ways to keep your account secure

Beyond protecting your login credentials, Mercury offers additional tools to help you secure your account.

Setting up a passkey

Most account takeovers start at login. Passkeys eliminate that risk by replacing the login step with device-level authentication. To set up a passkey, follow the steps here.

Reviewing your security recommendations

Your Account Security page shows personalized recommendations based on your account activity and settings. Recommendations are optional but encouraged.

To review your security recommendations:

  1. Click your org name in the top left-hand corner of your dashboard on web and click All settings
  2. Navigate to Account Security
  3. Review any flagged items and take action on the ones that apply to you

Recommendations may include:

  • Reviewing inactive team members
  • Setting up approval policies for payments
  • Asking team members to enable passkeys
  • Other actions based on notable patterns in your account
