Verifying your U.S. business operations

Some businesses without physical ties to the U.S. need to verify their U.S. operations. If your business doesn’t have a U.S. workplace, a beneficial owner living in the U.S., or a beneficial owner with a U.S.-issued ID, Mercury may request additional verification during your application or via email after your account is approved.

Proof of U.S. operations

Your business must have a legitimate connection to the U.S. Any of the following documents can serve as proof and must match deposit or payment activity in your Mercury account:

  • Record of a sale to a U.S.-based customer (a screenshot works)
  • Invoice or contract showing your relationship with a U.S.-based customer, partner, or supplier
  • Signed SAFE agreement
  • Signed investment agreement between both parties
  • Employment documentation for a U.S.-based employee, such as an employment agreement or W-2, showing the employee’s full legal name and residential address.
  • Payroll records showing payments to U.S.-based employees
  • Signed lease or rental agreement for a physical office or coworking space in the U.S. Registered agent, virtual, P.O. box, or mailbox addresses cannot be accepted.
  • Utility bill from the last 90 days
  • Your business's most recent federal tax return with the IRS

Businesses that don’t operate in the U.S.

U.S. operations are required to maintain your Mercury account. If you don’t operate in the U.S., don’t plan to, or don’t have qualifying documentation, your account may be locked or eventually closed.
