Gathering your documents

To complete a Mercury application, you may need the following documents. Depending on your business, we can sometimes verify these details automatically — so you might not be asked to upload anything at all. Either way, it's best to have them ready:

Your company formation document

To qualify for an account, your business must provide state-filed formation documents (such as Articles of Organization, Articles of Incorporation, or a Certificate of Formation) that confirm registration with the relevant government authority (like the Secretary of State or similar department) in the U.S. state or territory where you're registered.

Your IRS-issued EIN document

You'll need to submit one of the following IRS-issued documents:

  • Form CP575
  • Form 147c
  • SS-4
    • If you submit a SS-4, please ensure it is not just the application, but the returned version from the IRS.

We can also accept a screenshot of your EIN confirmation from the IRS website if you don’t have a completed document yet.

US government ID or International Passport

We will need identification for any owner with at least 25% ownership in your company, and at least one person with operating control of the business. ID documents should contain your photo, date of birth, issue and expiration dates, and identification number.

  • US Citizens may provide a Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, or Passport card
  • US Permanent Residents or Non-Citizens may provide a Permanent Residency Card or Employment Authorization Card
  • International applicants may provide a Passport
