Sending money overview

Whether you’re paying employees, vendors, or similar, you have the option to send ACHs, wires or checks right from your Mercury dashboard through the Send Money flow. Below is an overview of the payment types available, how they differ, and links for further information.

ACH payments

An ACH (Automated Clearing House) payment is an electronic funds transfer system in the United States that allows you to send money from one U.S bank account to another. It's a secure and convenient way to make payments and takes a few business days.

Domestic wires

Domestic wires are typically sent same business day and involve the transfer of money electronically from one bank or financial institution to another. Always sent via USD to another U.S bank, domestic wires are a fast and secure payment method.

Check payments

Paper checks (along with attachments) can be mailed directly from your Mercury account to U.S.-based recipients. Typically printed within a business day, and then sent via USPS, checks take up to 10 business days to arrive at their final destination.

ACHs, domestic wires and checks can be sent from your web or mobile apps and are free to send. Looking to send a domestic payment? Check out detailed instructions here.

Processing times and payment errors

Processing times will vary based on payment type, cutoff times and whether the payment is incoming or outgoing.

If you're encountering errors with a failed/returned payment, there are a few reasons and ways to troubleshoot we've outlined here.

We use an address verification software called LOB to double-check the deliverability of an address and it'll often flag newer or incorrectly formatted addresses but there are a few ways we recommend fixing undeliverable addresses.
