You can save payment details for frequently paid recipients to make it even easier to create new payments in the future. Recipients are shared across your account.
Adding a new recipient
- Go to your Recipients page and select Add Recipient. You can also add a new recipient when creating a payment by going to Move Money > Pay Someone and selecting Add new recipient in the Recipient field.
- You’ll be asked to fill in some details to set up their recipient profile, including legal name, address, bank details, and more.
Inviting a recipient
If you don’t know your recipient’s banking details, you can email them an invite with a link to a secure form where they can complete their own profile instead.
- From your Recipients page, click Invite Recipient.
- Fill in their name, email address, and any notes to send along with the invite. You can also choose whether to allow your recipient to set their preferred payment method (ACH, check, wire, or international wire) or you choose for them.
- If you’re trying to send them a payment immediately, select Set up a payment now. You’ll be able to schedule the payment so it can be processed automatically once the recipient provides their details.
- You can also optionally select Request tax documents (W9 or W8-BEN) to have them upload the requested tax documents.
- Review the details and send the invite. We’ll email you once your recipient has submitted their information.
Inviting multiple recipients via CSV
You can save time and send multiple invites at once by uploading your recipient list via CSV.
- Go to your Recipients page, and click the dropdown next to Invite Recipient to select Bulk CSV Upload.
- Download the CSV template and add the names and emails of recipients you want to invite, then upload the file and click Continue.
- Make sure the names and emails look correct and select the desired payment methods, then review and send.
- We’ll email all of your uploaded recipients an invite with a link to a secure form where they can add their personal and bank details. You’ll get an email confirmation for each recipient that completes the form.
Editing or removing recipients
- Go to your Recipients page and click a recipient's name to open up their profile.
- To change their bank details, simply click the Edit link next to the details you want to update.
- To change their display name, click the three dots in the lower right corner of the profile, then select Edit Name.
- To remove the recipient entirely, click the three dots in the lower right corner of the profile, then select Remove Recipient.
Finding recipients
You can use the search bar at the top of your Mercury dashboard to search for recipient names and view their payment details. You can also view all your saved recipients on your Recipients page.
Uploading tax documents
You can request W9 or W8-BEN tax document attachments from your recipients and attach them to their recipient profiles.
If you’re inviting a recipient to fill out their own profile, you can select Request tax documents (W9 or W8-BEN) when setting up their invite. This will allow them to upload the files directly.
You can also request tax documents for a recipient you’ve already added. Here’s how:
- Go to your Recipients page.
- Click on a recipient’s name to open up their profile, then select Request Tax Documents.
- Confirm their email address, then click Send Invite. We’ll send them a secure link to upload the requested documents, and we’ll email you a confirmation once the documents are received.
