Linking external bank accounts

We use Plaid to link U.S bank accounts to your Mercury account for easier transfers and money management.

Here’s how to link an external account:

  1. Click the blue Move Money button in the upper right corner, then select Transfer.
  2. Click on the Transfer From dropdown, then scroll to the bottom and click Link a Bank Account.
  3. Using the Plaid pop-up, find your bank and enter your credentials when prompted. If your bank is not selectable from the Plaid dropdown, we're currently unable to support a connection (including a manual connection via micro-deposit). The good news is, you can still transfer funds between bank accounts via ACH and the Move Money flow.
  4. You'll be prompted to select the type of external bank account that you're linking (either Business or Personal). You'll need to provide this information before you can make a transfer.
    1. The account type (business or personal) determines how the ACH transaction is sent between your linked accounts. This is called the SEC file type: WEB files for personal accounts or CCD files for business accounts.
    2. If you have an existing linked account, updating the account type may change how your transactions are sent. If your receiving bank flags the transaction for your review, you can let them know this was an expected change.

Once the account is linked, you can view account details, manage the connection, and initiate new transfers by going to the Linked Accounts tab on your Accounts page.

If you receive an error when trying to log in, double-check that you're using the correct login, password, and login method. It can also be helpful to log in to your bank directly and make sure there are no error messages or items you need to action before connecting.
