Using SMS for receipt reminders and uploads

If your organization requires receipts for card transactions, you can receive SMS reminders and reply with a photo of your receipt to automatically match it to the correct transaction.

This article explains how to enable SMS receipt texting, receive receipt reminders, and submit receipts by text.

Enable SMS receipt texting

To enable SMS receipt texting:

  1. Go to All Settings > Profile
  2. Scroll down to “SMS receipt matching” 
  3. Add your country code and valid phone number 
  4. Click Opt In
  5. You’ll receive a text message asking your to confirm SMS receipt reminders


We’ll send receipt-related text messages to the phone number listed on your Profile page.

Submit receipts by text

Once you've enabled SMS receipt texting, you can submit receipts in two ways.

Reply to a receipt reminder

After an in-person card transaction that requires a receipt, Mercury sends you a text reminder. Reply with a photo of your receipt, and Mercury automatically matches it to the correct transaction.

Text a receipt anytime

You can also text a receipt without waiting for a reminder.

FAQs

Why didn't I get a text reminder to upload a receipt for my purchase?

SMS receipt reminders are only sent for in-person card purchases. For online purchases, you'll receive a task and be notified by email or push notification, depending on your notification preferences.

If you expected a text reminder for an in-person purchase, make sure:

  • SMS receipt matching is turned on under All Settings > Profile > SMS receipt matching
  • SMS notifications are enabled under All Settings > Notifications > Your spending
  • Your phone number is up to date in All Settings > Profile > Phone number

How do I stop SMS receipt texting?

Reply STOP to opt out of SMS messages at any time. Reply START to opt back in.

 

Message and data rates may apply. Mercury will never ask for passwords, one-time codes, or sensitive personal information over text. Reply STOP to opt out at any time.
