Understanding your Mercury balances

As you explore your Mercury dashboard, you’ll see a few different balance breakdowns to help you better understand how much money you have coming in, going out, and available to use.

Your Mercury balance

When you first log in to Mercury on the web or in the mobile app, you’ll see an amount called your “Mercury balance”. This is a birds eye view of available funds across all of your checking, savings, and (if applicable) Treasury accounts, including any pending transactions that are outgoing.

Your available balance

Your available balance represents funds that can be used immediately.

  • On your homepage, you can find this in the detailed breakdown of your Mercury total. If you don't have any pending internal transfers, your available balance and your Mercury balance might be the same.
  • On an individual account page, this is the balance at the top of the page.

Your pending balance

Your pending balance is the total of all pending outgoing transactions. The second a transaction begins to process, it’s subtracted from your Mercury and available balances since the funds are no longer available to use. Instead, we provide this total so you can get a quick sense of your outgoing cashflow.

  • On your homepage, you’ll see this in the breakdown of your Mercury balance. This shows you the total of outgoing funds across all accounts.
  • On an individual account page, you’ll find this near the available balance. This shows you the total outgoing transactions from the specific account you’re viewing.

Your Treasury balance

Your Treasury balance is the total of all your available and invested Treasury funds and doesn’t include pending deposits. It’s functionally very similar to an available balance on a checking or savings account, but because your Treasury funds may be invested and thus not immediately available in the same way, we gave it its own name. As a reminder, accessing these funds will require a transfer out of Treasury and can take 2-5 business days to liquidate.

You can view your Treasury balance in a few places: on your homepage by clicking into the table icon and clicking Treasury, your list of accounts in the sidebar and within your actual Treasury page.

Your IO credit balance

Your IO credit balance is the total amount you’ve currently spent on your IO card. Obviously, this balance is slightly different than the others in that it doesn’t represent funds you have available, but rather funds you need to pay back.

Also note: this balance includes pending charges before they’ve fully settled to give you a sense of overall spend. If a charge falls off or fails to complete, the balance will adjust accordingly. This balance can be viewed on your Credit page.
