Creating a new debit card

If you’re an admin, you can issue new physical or virtual debit cards for yourself or your team right from your Mercury dashboard or mobile app. Each team member can only have one active physical debit card at a time.

Creating a card

You’ll use the same process whether you want virtual or physical:

  1. Go to your Cards page from your Mercury dashboard
  2. Near the top, click Add Card
  3. Select the card type
  4. Select which team member the card is for and which checking account you want to pull funds from
  5. Give the card a nickname, like “AWS Payments” or “Jojo’s Expense Card.” If you leave the nickname blank, the card recipient can add their own later
  6. Decide whether you want a physical or virtual card
    • When ordering a physical card, you’ll be asked to confirm your shipping address. You’ll also have the chance to update it if needed
  7. Set a daily, weekly, or monthly spending limit. You can edit this limit later, if needed. If you’re issuing a physical card, you’ll also set a daily or monthly ATM limit for withdrawals

Delivery timelines

Virtual cards can be used immediately after issuing. You can find the card info on your dashboard.

Once issued, physical cards are typically sent the following business day and may take up to 5-7 business days to arrive within the United States, and 2-3 weeks for international addresses. If you’re sending a card to your registered agent’s address, it may take a little longer as they’ll likely add some handling time.

Cards will arrive in an unbranded white envelope.

If you ordered a physical card but need to make payments sooner, issue a virtual card to use in the meantime.

Restricted countries for debit card shipping and issuing

Due to regional and international regulations, policies, and sanctions, we are unable to mail physical cards and/or issue virtual debit cards to residents of certain countries. For full details, see our help article

The Mercury Debit Cards are issued by Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC, pursuant to licenses from Mastercard.
