Starting June 15, 2026, Mercury is updating the IO card statement format to follow standard credit card accounting conventions. This article explains what's changing, why, and what to expect on your next statement. For general information about IO card statements, see our main help article.
What's changing
These updates bring IO card statements in line with standard credit card accounting conventions, making it clearer what was owed at the close of each billing period versus what's scheduled to be paid.
Balances reflect the statement close date
Only activity through the close date appears on a given statement. If a payment or transaction occurs after the close date, it will show up on the following month's statement instead.
Autopay appears as its own line item
Autopay no longer appears within the transaction list. It now shows separately on the statement cover page, with the scheduled payment amount and source account. Autopay doesn't affect the balance for the closed period. Since autopay typically runs after your statement closes, it falls into the next billing period.
Charges and payments use opposite signs
Charges and balances display as positive values; payments and refunds display as negative. This follows standard credit card accounting conventions and is different from your Transactions page, which shows charges as debits from your spending power. Both reflect the same activity from different accounting perspectives.
Starting and ending balances are now connected
Your starting balance will always match the previous statement's ending balance going forward.
FAQs
Do I need to do anything?
No action is required. The updated format will apply automatically to statements generated after [Date] June 2026.
Why does my starting balance not match my previous statement's ending balance?
Your first statement for [Date] may show a starting balance that differs from your previous statement's ending balance. This is a one-time difference as the new format takes effect. All statements going forward will carry balances forward consistently.
I made a payment but it's not on my statement — where is it?
Payments appear on the statement for the period in which they post, not when they're initiated. If a payment was initiated before your statement close date but posted after, it will appear on your next statement instead. To confirm the payment was processed, check your transaction history on your Credit page.
Does this change how autopay works?
The format change affects how autopay is displayed on your statement — not how it functions. Autopay will continue to run as scheduled.
Will statements issued before June 15, 2026 be reissued in the new format?
Regenerated statements will follow the new format.
