Mercury Command overview

Mercury Command is a conversational interface built directly into your Mercury account. Instead of navigating between pages and dashboards, you can type what you need in plain language to get answers and take action — from checking your cash position to sending a payment to updating a card limit.

What you can do with Command

Command works across the products already in your Mercury account. You can:

  • Ask questions — check balances, find transactions, view account details and statements. Every answer is drawn from your live account data.
  • Take action — send payments, freeze cards, categorize transactions, create and send invoices, and more. Command stages every action for your review first and does not execute until you confirm.
  • Edit settings — update card limits, auto-transfer rules, user permissions, and similar account settings without navigating between pages.
  • Verify responses — every answer links directly to the underlying transaction, invoice, or account data so you can check the source.
  • Reach support — escalate any conversation and get routed to a real person on our support team without leaving the chat.

Command can only perform actions that are already available to you in Mercury. It does not have elevated permissions. For example, if you have a monthly spend limit on your account, Command cannot override that permission. Every action is bound by these existing permissions and governed by the same approval policies and risk controls that protect your Mercury account.

How confirmation works

Command never takes action without your explicit approval. When you ask it to do something, it stages the action — pre-filling the details and showing you exactly what will happen — and stops. Nothing executes until you confirm.

You can also modify what Command has staged before approving, so it's not just a simple accept or reject.

Your data and privacy

Command is designed to use only what it needs in order to respond to your prompts.

Sensitive personal and account information — including card numbers, SSNs, dates of birth, and home addresses — is never sent to the underlying AI model. When Command needs to reference something less sensitive (but something we believe the model doesn’t need to know, like a recipient’s name, account balances, or the email addresses of users on an account) we send an internal reference ID and only surface the real data to you directly in Mercury's interface.

Command authenticates through your existing Mercury session. This means it can only access data that a user is already authorized to see. Likewise, it can only perform actions that a user is already authorized to perform inside their Mercury account. For example, if a team member can't view account balances in Mercury, they can't ask Command to surface them either.

Mercury Command is powered by third-party AI providers. In order to generate responses, some data is shared with these providers, but your conversations are never used to train their models.

Getting started

Command is available to all Mercury business and personal customers. You'll find it in the top left corner of your Mercury dashboard, and also via float button in the bottom right — it's always there when you need it.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • "How did our cash position change this month?"
  • "Show me software spend by vendor."
  • "Find the wire details for our operating account."
  • "Generate a custom bank letter for this account."
  • "Show me all uncategorized transactions from April."
  • "Create an invoice for [existing customer] for [amount]."
  • "Prepare an ACH payment to [recipient] for [amount]."
  • "Set up an auto-transfer rule to keep $25,000 in our operating account."
  • "Show me card activity for [employee] this month."
  • "Freeze the card ending [1234] until I review the charge."
  • "Set a monthly spending limit for this card."
  • "Invite [name, email] and assign the right role for a bookkeeper."
  • “Summarize what needs my attention before month end."
  • “Turn Mercury to dark mode.”
  • “How much interest have I earned on my savings this year?”
  • “Create a virtual card for my Netflix subscription with a $15 limit.”
  • “Move $1,000 from my business account to personal.”
